Dear followers,
We hope this message finds you well. We wanted to take a moment to update you on some important developments concerning the Markiesje breed here in the States.
Temporary Halt on Markiesje Exports to the U.S.
Our founding breed club, the Nederlandse Markiesjes Vereniging (NMV) has informed us that the export of Markiesjes to the United States has been temporarily halted. This decision was made due to new CDC regulations and a negative experience with puppies traveling here. We know this may be disappointing and we share your frustration. Please know we are doing our best to stay updated on the situation.
Current Status of the Markiesje in the U.S.
Right now there are only seven Markiesjes in the United States (one female and six males). None of them have plans to breed at the moment. Therefore we do not have an active breeder or breeding female. We’ve confirmed this with the Nederlandse Markiesjes Vereniging and, our second breed association, the Markiesjes Welzijn in the Netherlands are not exporting at this time. If owners would like to update the club on their dogs status, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We want to keep our records as up-to-date as possible to ensure we’re all informed and connected.

Why It Matters and What We Can Do
We want to make it clear again that there are no breeding Markiesjes in the United States at this time. Unfortunately some individuals are misleading buyers by labeling their mixed-breed puppies as a Markiesje. These dogs are being bred for profit, not responsible breeding, and are often coming from untested parents with no health or temperament evaluations.
These dogs and litters are not regulated by any of the breed organizations and do not meet the breed standards that ensure the health and well-being of the dogs. This kind of unregulated breeding takes advantage of the breed's rarity and high demand and it can harm both the dogs and the breed’s future.
We ask that prospective buyers reach out to us to confirm legitimacy and continue to educate others. By doing so, we can help protect the breed's integrity and prevent these misleading practices.
The MSA appreciates your continued support and will keep you informed with monthly updates. Please be patient as we update our website as well. Thank you for being part of the Markiesje community!
Warm regards,
Markiesje Society of America
