OUR MISSION
Our primary mission is to safeguard the future of the Markiesje in America. We strive to maintain the breed's standards, promote responsible breeding practices, support the breed's development in America, and achieve recognition by the American Kennel Club (AKC). As the only breed parent club for Markiesjes in America, we follow the rules and regulations of the Nederlandse Markiesjes Vereniging, acting as an extension of their efforts.
ABOUT THE MSA
The Markiesje Society of America, established in 2024 by dedicated enthusiasts, is committed to promoting, preserving, and ensuring the well-being of the Markiesje breed. This extremely rare breed of small Dutch spaniel boasts a rich history, charming elegance, and a friendly temperament, making it a beloved companion for many. As the primary representative of the Markiesje breed in America, we advocate for its national recognition and collaborate closely with other dog organizations and the Nederlandse Markiesjes Vereniging to protect its interests. Given its extreme rarity, with fewer than 10 known individuals in America, supporting its development here is crucial.
Devoted to preserving the integrity and purity of the Markiesje breed, we advocate for ethical breeding practices and strive for AKC recognition. Our founders, who have successfully helped develop other breeds seen all over the country, bring valuable experience and dedication to our efforts. By maintaining the breed's standards and supporting its growth, we ensure the Markiesje continues to thrive and be appreciated for generations to come.

We recognize that some dogs resemble Markiesjes but aren't from Markiesje breeding. Occasionally, the Nederlandse Markiesjes Vereniging approves look-alikes for breeding to maintain genetic diversity. This unique practice underscores our commitment to the breed’s health. We welcome these dogs into our community while staying true to the breed's origins and standards.
